Earl L. Hayes, 88, of Hillsboro, IL, formerly of Butler, IL, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 1:24 a.m. at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care Center, Hillsboro, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Rev. Michael Lawton, Pastor of United Methodist Church, Hillsboro, IL will officiate. Burial will be in Wares Grove Cemetery in Rural Butler, IL.
Mr. Hayes was born on August 28, 1930 in Jacksonville, IL to the late Louis E. and Ruth (Howerton) Hayes. He was a 1948 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, IL and worked for Standard Oil Fertilizer plant as a Plant Manager, Butler, IL, was a farmer, and was a retired correction officer at Graham Correctional Center, Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Hayes lived in Olhman, IL, moved to Butler, IL in 1941 and moved to Hillsboro, IL in 2004. He married Mary Ann Henson on August 5, 1956 in Springfield, IL and she preceded him on November 29, 2012. Mr. Hayes was a past 4-H leader, a member of Charolais Cattle Association, loved his horses, loved to fish, deer hunt and loved the outdoors.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his children, Ruth (husband Steve) Ernst of Hillsboro, IL, Kenneth (wife Maureen) Hayes of Butler, IL, Lee Hayes of Hillsboro, IL, and Tony Hayes of Hillsboro, IL; son-in-law, Tom Weller of Litchfield, IL; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (wife Jessica Henry) Ernst, Allison Ernst (companion Shannon Roberts), Tim Ernst, Rachel (husband Jose) Lopez, Rob Hayes, Jason (wife Amanda) Hayes, Bryan Hayes (companion Amanda), Chris Weller, and Jeff Weller; seven great-grandchildren, Devin Hayes, Hunter Hayes, Zoey Hayes, Oliver Lopez, Gabryella Hayes, Levi Lipe, and Chloe Hoffman; and three sisters and one brother, Joann Pearson, Joy Lemon, Georgia Eller, and Jerry Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was also preceded in death by two daughters, Donna Jean Hayes and Merle Ann Weller; and a sister, Louise Westcott.
Memorials may be given to Myotonic Dystrophy or Wares Grove Cemetery, rural Butler, IL.
