Mildred Smith Obituary

Mildred Genevieve Smith, 93, of St. Peters, MO, passed away on February 19, 2019 at 10:25 a.m. at her residence. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Toberman Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Toberman Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen, IL. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Coffeen, IL. Father Robert Porter, Litchfield, IL, will officiate. 

Mrs. Smith was born on January 12, 1926 to the late Louis and Minnie (Spinner) Sommer. She was a 1945 Graduate of Coffeen High School and was hired by the Veterans Administration in Washinton D.C. After the war ended she decided to move to St. Louis, MO to be with her family.  She retired from Centerre Trust Company in St. Louis in 1988. She lived in Coffeen, IL, St. Louis, MO, Washington D.C., and St. Charles County Missouri throughout her life. Mrs. Smith married Perry Smith on May 22, 1948 at St. Liborious Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO. Along with having three children of their own, they became foster parents of seven children during a four year time period. Perry Smith preceded her in death on September 24, 1994.

Mrs. Smith loved to travel and visited seventeen different countries, Germany being her favorite. She was a member of Ladies Guild at St. Pius X Catholic Church, volunteered for several years at the Veteran's Home in North St. Louis County, also the retired Notre Dame Nuns Home on Riverview Drive, known as Villa Gesu. She was also a member of Ancestry.com since 2009, and genealogy was her passion.  She strived to find out where her ancestors lived, and many have benefited from her efforts.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son Mark Kent Smith, Lambertville, MI; ten grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by her sister Kathleen Carlock on September 25, 2018; and two children, Janice Kay Kennah, and Gena Ruth Smith.

Memorials may be made out to donor's choice or St. John's Cemetery, Coffeen, IL.
