Shirley Ginos Obituary

Shirley (Cross) Ginos of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Tremont Ridge Assisted Living Center where she lived for 11 years.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Rev. Harry Meyer and Mark Noyes will officiate.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, IL.

She was born March 3, 1923, in Slater, MO, to the late Russell and Vivian (Johnson) Cross.  She then moved to Chicago, IL.  She graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1944 with a degree in Mathematics.  She married William A Ginos, Jr of Hillsboro on June 13, 1944, and together they had six children—Kenneth (Judy) of Clarksville, TN, Janet (Rod) of Springfield, IL, Alan (Barb) of Walnut Creek, CA, Steven (Elizabeth) of Quincy, IL, Mark, and Will (Lisa) of Dallas, TX.  She has 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Mrs. Ginos is also survived by 1 brother, Russell (wife, Sandra) Cross of Montana and 1 sister, Bettye Bennett of Oregon.

Mrs. Ginos has faithfully attended and been active in the First Christian Church of Hillsboro, serving as board chair and treasurer as well as being very active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship.  She served for a number of years as treasurer of the Inter-Church Community Aid and the Hillsboro Ministerial Assoc.  She was active with Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank, CEFS, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.  She co-owned and operated the Manor Motel in Hillsboro for many years from the 60’s to the early 80’s.  More recently she has volunteered to read to elementary school students.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ginos, her parents, Russell and Vivian Cross, and one son, Mark B Ginos.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the American Red Cross, 311 W. John H Gwynn Jr Ave., Peoria, IL 61605.
