Zala Alice Meyer, age 84,of Hillsboro IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 7:35 p.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital, Hillsboro IL. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Abbey on Broad, Hillsboro, IL.
Born on December 9, 1935 at Coffeen IL to the late Jerome & May (Gaines) Malloy. She was a graduate of Coffeen High School in 1953 and married Denver C. Meyer that same year. First working as a farmers wife, then moving to Hillsboro in 1961, she raised four children. Later divorcing, she earned her LPN at Capitol Area Vocational Center. She worked in Hillsboro Hospital and nursing homes, then Graham Correctional Center Medical Unit for 22 years and retired from there.
She had a large, close knit extended family and much enjoyed them all, with countless get togethers. Besides her four children, she also wrangled all of the neighborhood kids that hung out with her kids.
She had been an Eastern Star member. She also enjoyed music, travel with friends and family, reading and puzzles.
Survivors include her four children, Daniel Dean (wife Jackie) Meyer, Hillsboro; Lloyd Alan Meyer, Hillsboro; Douglas Kent (his sweetheart, Diana Casey) Meyer; Coffeen IL; and Miki Malloy (husband, Eric) Smoot , Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Luke (wife Kim) Meyer, Jessie (husband Jamie) Hatfield, and Cody Meyer; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary May Mansfield, Brighton, IL and Lila (husband Arthur) Mazzier, Wheaton IL. Preceding in death were one daughter-in-law, Cindy Meyer; one grandson, Kyle Meyer and four brothers, Drexel Malloy, Carl T. Malloy, Carroll Malloy and Durrel J. Malloy.
Memorials are suggested to Montgomery County Senior Citizens, Imagine Hillsboro or Donors Choice.
