Alice Maxine (Jones) May

Alice Maxine (Jones) May, 104, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 10:32 p.m., at HSHS St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, IL.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Cemetery.  Family and friends will meet at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. (noon) to proceed to the cemetery.  Cremation rites were accorded.  Rev. Jeff Hemken, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate with Dr. Ronald D. Rhodus of Carlinville, IL.

Mrs. May was born on May 24, 1916 in East Fork Township, IL to the late Joe B. and Fay O. (Edwards) Jones.  She was a 1935 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, IL and was a wife, mother, worked in the kitchen of the Dutch Mill Restaurant, Hillsboro, IL, and worked in food service for the school district for 17 years.  Mrs. May lived in Alton, IL for 10 years and then Hillsboro, IL most of her life.  She married William F. May, Sr. on May 17, 1936 in Hillsboro, IL and he preceded her on September 12, 1969.  Mrs. May was a member of the Farm Bureau; a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL, where she helped with Bible School and loved her Sunday School class; and a member of Royal Neighbors of America; crocheted hats for new babies at St. Francis Hospital and Head Start; loved animals, horses and going to yard sales; and collected horse statues and music boxes.

Mrs. May is survived by two children, James (wife Carol) May, Sr. of Hillsboro, IL and Janet Durbin of Hillsboro, IL; twelve Grandchildren; several Great-Grandchildren; and several Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Mrs. May was also preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” F. May, Jr. and a brother, Joe C. Jones.
