Alvin Miller Obituary

Alvin Walter Miller, 90, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11:50 a.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital, Hillsboro, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. Burial will be in Cress Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro, IL. Military rites will be held at Cress Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL, and accorded by Department of Defense and American Legion Post 425.

Mr. Miller was born December 28, 1930 in Herrick, IL to the late Rev. John “Walter” and Mary Elizabeth (Calvert) Miller. He was a 1949 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. After his military service, he worked for Sears and Roebuck. He was the store owner of Western Auto and had worked for Dunn Real Estate, Patton Memorial Home, later Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, and True Value. He lived in Hillsboro his whole life. Mr. Miller married Barbara Ann Painter on November 20, 1949 at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. She preceded on September 13, 1983. He then married Martha Sue Edwards on November 3, 1985 in Litchfield, IL. She survives in Hillsboro, IL. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. He was known as a Mr. Fix-It who could fix anything. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He loved reading his Bible daily and was a very strong man of God.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Miller is survived by his Daughters, Sharon (companion James Hires) Miller of Litchfield, IL, Susan (husband Charles) Coy of Vandalia, IL, Serena (husband Todd) Hennings of Attica, IN;  Sons, Steven Miller of Peoria, AZ, and Stanley Miller of Fayetteville, NC; Step-daughter, Susan (husband Max) Roach of Covington, TN; and Step-son, Mark (wife Becky) Edwards of Cleveland, OH; Sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Dorothy Miller of Berea, KY.

Mr. Miller is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and his siblings: Ed Miller, Julia Jester, Mary Ward, Carol Dorf, and Lugenia Miller.
