Jerry Dwain Hayes, 75, of Irving, IL, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 4:18 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Cremation rites were accorded. Reverend Stefan Munker, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL, at a later date.
Mr. Hayes was born on July 12, 1946, in Hillsboro, IL, to the late Louis E. and Ruth (Howerton) Hayes. He was a 1964 Hillsboro High School graduate, Hillsboro, IL, he attended University of Illinois, Champaign, IL, for a year and a half, and then attended Lincoln Land Community College, Springfield, IL. He worked in information systems for Capital Development Board for the State of Illinois. Mr. Hayes lived in Hillsboro, IL, and Butler Grove Township, IL. He was in the U.S. Army for 2 years during Vietnam and stationed in Anchorage, AK. He married Sharol Keune on December 11, 1966, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL. She survives in Irving, IL.
He was a member of Wares Grove Lutheran Church, Butler, IL.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hayes is survived by his daughter Shelley Bergman of Litchfield, IL; good friend T.J. Dewitt; three grandchildren, Alicia Dewitt, Alainna Dewitt, and Brenden Dewitt; one great grandchild, Dylan Dewitt; and three sisters, Joann (husband Bob) Pearson, Joy Lemon, and Georgia (husband Cliff) Eller.
Mr. Hayes was also preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Westcott and Earl Hayes.
