Walter Duzan Obituary

 Walter Russell Duzan, 89, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 9:48 a.m. at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care, Hillsboro, IL.

A memorial service for Mr. Duzan will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on the Courthouse Square in Hillsboro, IL, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Pastor Stefan Munker of St. Paul's Lutheran Church will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by Department of Defense and American Legion Post 425.

Mr. Duzan was born on October 25, 1931, in Rich Hill, MO, to the late Walter and Victoria (Andrews) Duzan. He was a graduate of Rich Hill High School, Rich Hill, MO, and served with the US army, 24th Infantry Division in Korea, 1951 to 1953.

He went to the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, for one year, and attended Gradwohle Medical Laboratory Technical School, St. Louis, MO. Mr. Duzan lived in Rich Hill, Mo, St. Louis, Mo, then moved to Hillsboro, IL. He married Suzanne Swank on December 22, 1954 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Litchfield, IL. She survives in Hillsboro, IL. He worked as a lab technician and an x-ray technician at Hillsboro Area Hospital, Hillsboro, IL, was an ambulance driver at Hillsboro Area Hospital, and a Hillsboro Area Hospital Administrator. Then after retirement he was an x-ray technician at Graham Correctional Center, Hillsboro, IL. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL, Jay Cee, then the Jay Cee’s Exhausted Rooster Club, Hillsboro Moose Lodge, Hillsboro, IL, Pheasants Forever, he loved to fish and deer hunt, he was a former Tournament Bass Fisherman, loved meeting for morning coffee at Hardees, a Mizzou fan, loved to volunteer at church, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels.


Mr. Duzan is survived by his wife Suzanne Duzan of Hillsboro, IL; his four children, Mike Claxon of Hillsboro, IL; Dave Claxon of Gifford, IL; Cindy Duzan (husband Terry Steyer) of Glen Rock, PA, and James (wife Barbara) Duzan of Loogootee, IN; five grandchildren, Scott Duzan, Josh Duzan, Todd Claxon, Tammy White, and Tysha Mullen, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Duzan was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Rachel Claxon; one brother and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Harvest of Hope Food Bank, Paws Care, or Montgomery County Animal Shelter.
